Thorichthys aureus is a Central American cichlid native to the Atlantic slope of Middle America, ranging from the Chachalacas River region in Mexico south to the Motagua River drainage in Guatemala and Honduras. This species is characterized by its slightly pointed head, defined vertical body striping, and active yet manageable temperament.
