A set of six Art Deco champagne coupes by a glassmaker so rare, we could find almost nothing about them. Which means you found them first.
A set of six vintage Art Deco champagne coupes by Saben Glass Co., New York, in the rare Contessa pattern. Geometric cut glass with diamond and stripe cuts on the bowl, squared stem, and beveled square base. Circa 1940s–1950s, excellent condition. 4.5" tall, 6 oz capacity. Hand wash only.
Saben Glass Co. operated out of New York and made at least two patterns — Contessa and Scanda — in the 1940s. They filed a trademark for "Royal Family" in 1949 covering sterling silverware, coasters, and drinking glasses, and another for silverplated wares in 1951. By 1957 two of their trademarks had been canceled. Almost nothing else is known. What that means for the collector is straightforward: this is a genuinely scarce set from a maker who left very little behind. The mold seam does not run to the top edge, a technical indicator of age consistent with the 1940s–1950s dating.
Hand wash only to maintain condition. No chips, scratches, or cracks on any of the six.
A wonderful set for a serious barware collector, an Art Deco enthusiast, a maximalist entertainer, or anyone who wants a set of champagne coupes that nobody else at the table will ever have seen before.
