RD-M8200 12-Speed Shadow ES Rear Derailleur

The new DEORE XT RD-M8200 is built to take a hit and keep moving forward. A wedge-shaped SHIMANO SHADOW ES design reduces the derailleur's front-facing surface area and smooths off the edges that used to catch on rocks and roots, so trailside debris glances off rather than tearing it from the hanger. It's the same thinking found on Shimano's latest Di2 mountain bike drivetrains, now brought to the trusted mechanical XT family.

Underneath that low profile sits a genuinely robust derailleur: a wide, well-braced linkage and solid pulleys keep debris out and shifting precise, while an updated dual-spring chain stabiliser increases spring force by around 70% over the previous generation for noticeably better chain retention over rough ground. Shifting stays fast and accurate even under load, and with a 500% gear range on tap you've got the spread to tackle everything from long fire-road climbs to steep, technical descents.

The RD-M8200 is available in two cage lengths for HYPERGLIDE+ 12-speed drivetrains. The long-cage SGS version pairs with a 10-51T cassette for maximum range, while the compact mid-cage GS option runs a 9-45T cassette and gains roughly 23mm of additional ground clearance for riders who want a tidier, more protected setup.
