About White-Tailed Deer Bucks:

The White-Tailed Deer is the most common and widespread deer species in North America, found from Canada to South America. They're named for their distinctive white tail that they raise like a flag when alarmed. Male deer (bucks) grow antlers each year, shedding them in winter and regrowing them in spring—antlers can grow up to 1/4 inch per day! Mature bucks can have antlers with 8-10 points or more. White-tailed deer have reddish-brown coats in summer that turn greyish-brown in winter for camouflage. Bucks typically weigh 150-300 pounds and stand about 3-4 feet tall at the shoulder. They're excellent jumpers, able to leap 8 feet high and 30 feet in length! White-tailed deer are herbivores that browse on leaves, twigs, fruits, and nuts. They're most active at dawn and dusk (crepuscular). Bucks are solitary or form small bachelor groups except during the fall breeding season (rut) when they compete for mates. White-tailed deer are important to ecosystems and are symbols of North American wilderness!
